Decision

The abstract forms seen in my work become a powerful expression of the human experience – a way to raise ideas or concerns without using words. The strength behind abstract art is that it requires the viewer to look inward to find their own understanding of what they see. This body of work examines the discomfort of making decisions – these pieces illustrate the chaos that exists in my mind as a young adult trying to find my way in the world. The lights within the pieces represent ideas and realities that only exist in the expanse of the mind. All the worries or hopes that don’t exist but somehow become burdensome. Sometimes these ideas spin round and round without a conclusion while others are quickly forgotten. While this work is meant to help me better understand myself, it also allows me to make connections to universal concerns – the same concerns that I believe viewers of the work are experiencing. They act as a reminder that we are not alone – we are more connected than we think.
